Workers Unite on Cinnamon Bun Day!

I was very surprised to see this billboard in the subway during the last week of September: a coalition of labour unions advocating for cinnamon bun delivery at work as a BASIC HUMAN RIGHT, even when cinnamon bun day (October 4) lands on a weekend day. Can working conditions in Sweden be so good that the last remaining fights are about cinnamon buns? Is this paid for by the coalition of Swedish bakeries hoping to encourage employers into buying more cinnamon buns?

The QR code goes to a real website: www.forak.se. describing the ‘association’ and listing its demand: to move cinnamon bun day from a Saturday (when employers don’t have to provide any) to the Friday, when employers will need to bring in cinnamon buns for all the workers.

Of course, it was not real. Instead of being fancy bakeries, it was the corner-store chain Pressbyrån who was behind the marketing campaign – as revealed by local news and their own press release advocating for ‘workers’ rights’. Welp, I clicked through and I am impressed by the creativity, although I would rather have one Tegnérs cinnamon bun than 100 from Pressbyrån.
