The first study period at KTH runs from the last week in august to the second week in October, and this year I had a record teaching load. Not just personal record, but I think an all-timer. Knowing from the start that it would be intense, I decide to plan something to look forward to and arranged for a 4-day weekend after the last class was over. The whole term then went on fast forward with my head down, and we did not really plan any specifics for this time off. I really wanted to go somewhere for a change of scenery, but last minute flights and trains were not reasonable for last-minute plans. Graham did some hunting around and suggested Trosa, a quaint touristy town on the nearest edge of the Stockholm archipelago.
…getting there, main appeal, seasonal, domestic regulars
We decided to do an evening spa visit on the Thursday, adn since there is basically only weekend touristing hapening in October we were the only ones there and had the whole place to ourselves! definitely recommend an evening spa visit.
We found some nice places to eat. Punschkällaren canal-side restaurant had hearty Swedish lunch specials, and we went twice to the Tre små rum cafe– their bakery items and soups were really great. One night we had a self-catered room picnic with knäckebröd, local fruits, a sparkling bottle and cheese from the local deli. We had one fancy dinner out at Matstudio, which had really nice veggie options, fancy seasfood, and fun cocktails. Trosa Gelato is also highly rated, but for me it was a bit too cold for ice cream.
On the Friday we decided to go on a hike on the adjacent Edanö. We walked over the bridge and then did some ‘real estate’ hiking along the winding country roads where we saw way more dog walkers than cars. There were also some nature trails, which we eventually found our way to and got up the highest point on the islands for some views of the coast.
It was a good thing to get away for a long weekend, and I want to plan for more in the near future!
