Perhaps you read about Graham’s adventures with our typically Swedish apartment laundry system. Signing up is great and I wish apartments in Canada would use that system. However, everyone once in a while, some schmuck disobeys the rules and brings discordance and chaos to their neighbourhoods.  Here is a comment from my sister about people who would do that:
It’s just not nice when people don’t play by clearly understood rules. Maybe you should pile up your stinky socks outside their door.
And here is one from Andrea:
Sorry to hear about the laundry time thief… That is so annoying!!!
I agree. Who would DO something like that?
It turns out, I would. :( I had a massive pile of laundry when I returned, so I decided to work from home on Tuesday and scheduled a morning slot (7-10) to launder it. It was just about done when I got a phone call from work. I chatted a bit and then realized I WAS 7 MINUTES LATE TO RETRIEVE MY LAUNDRY!!
When I got there there was a FURIOUS woman who yelled at me the whole time I removed my clothes and apologized. She was actually already washing her clothes in the washers, which were empty since I was at the drying stage, but since I had the key she had to go to the super to get the spare key and she wasn’t happy about it. I didn’t understand everything she said, but trust me, you didn’t need to be fluent in Swedish to get the gist.
Never again! Today I did laundry, but I set my alarm and got out of there 15 minutes early.
This is a post card from the Nordic museum’s ‘Laundry system’ exhibit last year: “What hell to steal someone’s laundry time! One time slot booked for the whole day (mine!), and you had to take it?
Oh dear. You are still a good person. In case there was a crisis of confidence that followed the yelling. (hugs)
