Dec 8: Pomegranates

Part of the 2020 good-times advent calendar! If you have ideas, and/or would like to see something fun drawn into the advent calendar, please let me know. Comment below or email/WhatsApp me and let’s have fun this next few weeks.

Pomegranates are a really great treat. They can be a bit pricy, but this year there are often loss-lead pomegranate specials and even if they are not on sale, picking a nice one is going to give you more happiness than your average banana anyhow. They have great flavour, awesome juice-crunch combo, and look like little jewels.

Uncle Jesse told me once that he loved pomegranates, but that it took 3 hours to get all the seeds out and it was hardly worth it, unless you had a lot of time on your hands. 0__o Friends, there is an easier way than opening it up and tweezering out each individual seed! Welcome to pomegranate spanking!

Pomegranate seeds (I know they are called ‘arils’ but this is not a food blog) are tasty in so many things – on your breakfast yogurt and museli, in your kombucha (hippies!), and my favourite, adding sweetness to salads.
