Two views of Vancouver

When we were in Vancouver over the holidays we went on a walk with my sisters and family down to the boardwalk around the Athlete’s Village.  They are just about to close down the site for security purposes, so we were happy to get a walk in. It was a beautiful sunny day, much warmer than Sweden, and we saw at least one person wearing flipflops (and it wasn’t even in Kitsilano!)  Here are some pictures from that day.

This shows a new west-coast-vibe sculpture by the Athletes village in Vancouver. Through the cutouts you can see False Creek, a glimpse of Olympic tents in Chinatown and past that to the mountains.

Of course, there is a downside. In a city so desirable there is a low vacancy rate and very high rents and property prices, meaning there isn’t really anything you could call ‘affordable housing’. There is also a big homeless population, which I expect brought about this guerrilla-art piece.

  1. Hey, I remember that…

It was so good to see you two during your visit, and this walk was a great way to check out the Olympic changes to False Creek. I’m not sorry that I won’t be there during the main event, though. Yikes.
